Can I eat and drink in the library?

Yes, but please keep in mind that the consumption of food and drink in the libraries should be minimized to avoid disturbing others and to protect our collections, equipment, and furnishings.

Hot and cold beverages as well as small, cold, hand-held snacks are allowed in library spaces (i.e. pastries, cookies, bars, fresh or dried fruits and vegetables, cold sandwiches, crackers, chips, etc.). Food deliveries are not permitted inside of the library.

There are dedicated spaces where absolutely no food or drink is allowed due to particularly high-value or rare collections or equipment. These spaces include:

  • Queen’s University’s Archives at Kathleen Ryan Hall.
  • The W.D. Jordan Rare Books and Special Collections floor of Douglas Library.
  • The Art and Maps collections spaces in Stauffer Library.
  • At library computers and equipment (e.g., photocopiers, scanners, e-classroom).

We encourage you to take a study break and enjoy meals in the designated food service areas in libraries and across campus. Visit the library's website for more information about the Food and Drink in the Library policy.
